Synopsis
In this Global Weirding video, the narrator talks about the many impacts of climate change, specifically in the Pacific Northwest region of North America.
Students will learn that climate change affects us right now, it affects people differently worldwide, and we must plan for the future.
Students will learn how climate change influences things like flooding and erosion on Inuit communities, pests, wildfires, and others.
This video thoroughly illustrates that different regions face unique challenges due to climate change and that we are facing these effects right now.
The video is broken up with animation to keep students engaged.
Additional Prerequisites
Students should understand climate change and its causes.
The teacher may want to point out these locations on a map, either before students watch the video or as students watch it.
Differentiation
This video gives students many options for further research, such as atmospheric rivers, invasive species, climate migration, feedback loops, glacial melt and permafrost thaw, and extreme weather events.
Have students research climate adaptations related to the impacts listed in the video or mitigation strategies.
Put students in groups and have each group research one of the regions mentioned in the video. Have students present their findings.
