The Share of Nuclear and Renewables in Total Electricity Production

|
Ask a Question

Synopsis
  • This resource includes an interactive line chart that compares the ratio of nuclear sources and renewable sources in total electricity production.
  • The information can be viewed by country or by continent starting from the year 1985.
Teaching Tips

Positives

  • The interactive provides three different ways for students to explore data (chart, map, table).
  • Students may choose to view datasets for various geographic locations and time periods.
  • Related research and data are linked.
  • The site explains how the data was collected.
Additional Prerequisites
  • Learners need to be familiar with the different sources of electricity.
  • Educator would need time to get familiar with this interactive media and decide on how to implement it with the learners.
Differentiation
  • There are other related interactive maps for other sources of electricity and energy.
  • Can be used to create awareness about one or more of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Scientist Notes

The resource evaluates share of electricity production in the world. Electricity mix data from BP was used; however, this is appropriate. Hence, students can explore the chart to visualize units of energy produced in different countries. This resource is suitable for teaching.
