Synopsis
This interactive report discusses the birds in Michigan threatened by climate change, details the changes in their habitats and how those changes are affecting the various types of birds, and gives informaiton about climate policy in Michigan and the climate threats to people and birds in Michigan.
Students can manipulate the bird list by changing the warming scenario, risk category, or season.
This resource gives students the option to look at the vulnerable birds as a whole or dive deeper into certain birds of interest.
This resource will help students see the major difference between 1.5, 2, and 3 degrees of warming by toggling between the scenarios and noting the change in the list.
Prerequisites
Students should understand the basics of climate change and be introduced to the different warming scenarios provided.
Differentiation & Implementation
This resource can support a student research project, where every student chooses a bird to report on.
In art classes, students can use the information and the images of birds to create climate change awareness art.
To make personal connections, teachers can ask students to browse the list to find birds that they are familiar with or connected to.
After looking through the information, students can create posters to warn people that these birds are vulnerable and brainstorm ways people can work to protect the birds.
