Synopsis
This resource is a version of a "cootie catcher" or "paper fortune teller" that students can use to start conversations about climate change or practice self-care.
There are three printable templates available with conversation prompts, ideas for self-care practices, or a mix of both.
This is a light, potentially familiar way for students to find strategies for processing their climate emotions.
The three different versions allow for versatility.
Prerequisites
This activity thrives in classrooms that have already established a culture of respect and safety and builds on students' awareness of climate change and its impacts.
Differentiation & Implementation
Students can use the self-care version as a cool-down after discussing particularly heavy climate change topics.
Students can go from partner to partner using the conversation starter version to get multiple different perspectives.
Students who are uncomfortable discussing the topics with their peers can use the conversation starters as journaling prompts, as suggested in the text.
This resource also includes the Climate Emotions Wheel to help students identify their emotions. For more uses for the Climate Emotions Wheel, teachers can check out this resource.
