This interactive graph and table allows students to explore the change in consumption-based CO2 emissions per capita, production-based CO2 emissions per capita, and GDP per capita.
The data begin in 1990 and account for the imports and exports of each country.
Students can select the time frame and countries they are interested in researching.
The table and chart are easy to use and are downloadable.
It clearly presents economic information related to greenhouse gas emissions.
Additional Prerequisites
Students will need to be familiar with the terms GDP (Gross Domestic Product), consumption, production, imports, and exports.
Differentiation
Cross-curricular connections could be made with social studies classes when discussing the reasons for the changes in imports and exports observed in different countries and some of the underlying reasons for those changes.
Economics classes can use this resource to see where development accelerated the fastest and if that correlates to higher emissions per capita.
Math classes could incorporate the data table and chart into lessons on relative change and percentages.
Have students research the top climate solutions and relate them to the graphs in this resource.
