Share of Primary Energy from Fossil Fuels

|
Ask a Question

Synopsis
  • An interactive map that shows the share of primary energy from fossil fuels starting from 1965.
  • Data can be viewed in map, chart, or table view.
  • Primary energy is calculated using the 'substitution method' which takes account of the inefficiencies energy production from fossil fuels.
Teaching Tips

Positives

  • Can view the data as a chart or table. Pressing the play button will shows the changes in data over the years.

Additional Prerequisites

  • Learners need to be familiar with the various sources of energy, and classifications.
  • Educator would need time to get familiar with this interactive media and decide on how to implement it with the learners.

Differentiation

  • There are other related interactive maps for other sources of energy.
  • Can be used to create awareness about one or more of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
Scientist Notes

The resource visualizes relative share of energy production from fossil fuel from different countries, although in the map, some countries have missing data for 2019. Datasets have been properly standardized and this resource is suitable for teaching.
