Teaching Tips

Positives

  • The Quest Reflections section provides several ideas for students to reflect on what they learned from the project.
  • The Share Your Story section gives students ideas for teaching their school, family, and community about soil health, as well as ideas for sharing their knowledge with a larger audience online and through social media.

Additional Prerequisites

  • This resource includes the first and second parts of the Teach section for Project Hero Soil Quest
  • The Virtual Student Guides at the beginning of both the Quest Reflections section and the Share Your Story section will give students an overview of the activities for each section.

Differentiation

  • The Personal Reflection questions can be used as essay prompts.
  • Students could answer the 4-3-2-1 Personal Reflections with original artwork or images found online.
  • Other resources on this topic include this project on creating a climate support group and this TED video on how youth activists can take action.
Scientist Notes

Students are given the necessary skills through this resource to inform their community about their initiatives for the Soil Quest. Additionally, it includes exercises for individuals or groups to reflect on their own lives and how they may help others comprehend the connection between soil health and climate change. For a classroom, this resource is perfect.
