Synopsis
In this report from Yale Program on Climate Change Communications, students will learn how video gamers responded to a survey gauging their feelings and beliefs about climate change.
Much of this data is compared with that from a similar study involving a sample of Americans.
This resource provides a unique perspective that many students may be intrigued by.
Given its organization, graphics, and other factors, students with various reading levels should be able to read and understand this report.
Prerequisites
Students should have a general understanding of climate change and its causes.
It may benefit students to understand terms like non-violent civil disobedience, consumer activism, and other terms.
Differentiation & Implementation
It may make for an interesting discussion to speculate about differences in the gaming community that would explain the data that strays from that of the general U.S. population.
To make connections to language arts, teachers can have students use and cite this data in a persuasive letter to a video game company, asking them to implement climate-friendly initiatives.
Students can replicate this study in their schools by surveying groups, clubs, or teams about their feelings about climate change and comparing them to data from a random sample of the student body.
