Synopsis

Prerequisites

Students will need access to the internet and their own devices if navigating the website on their own.

Differentiation & Implementation
Teachers can consider printing off the 11 photographs of Nordson Forest Park to do a gallery walk around the classroom. Students can hypothesize why these pictures are important and relevant to protecting our environment and decreasing global warming.
Students can further research Nordson Forest Park and how it has impacted the health, climate, and social well-being of the community surrounding the park.
Students can investigate to see if any other abandoned areas have been converted into green spaces. If students are unable to find any other examples similar to that of Nordson Forest Park, possibly have them see if there are any other abandoned areas that may be repurposed into green spaces. Students can write letters to local officials persuading them to redevelop those areas into green spaces only.
There are many news articles under the resource tab. It may be beneficial to use these articles in a jigsaw activity and have students read different articles. Students can then come together to see if they can find any common themes in the news articles.
