Synopsis
This video explores the geographical features, aquaculture, biodiversity, and daily tidal patterns of Netarts Bay on the Oregon coast.
Students will learn about the small creeks that flow into Netarts Bay, the bay's sandbars and mudflats, the size of the bay and its watershed, and the shellfish reserve at the bay's south end.
This video does an excellent job comparing Netarts Bay to the other bays in Tillamook County.
Students in the K-5 range should have no issues understanding this video and the "bird" narrator will be fun for younger students to listen to.
Additional Prerequisites
Students need to know the following terms: bay, estuary, watershed, sandbars, mudflats, tides, freshwater, saltwater, and spit.
A commercial may play before the video starts.
Differentiation
This video could supplement a lesson about the importance of protecting animals, and how maintaining the health of ecosystems can be beneficial to humans.
This video could be shown as an example of scientific knowledge leading to the protection of wildlife and their natural habitats.
