Synopsis

This resource from The Kid Should See This features a video and article describing a movement started by Mary Reynolds of Ireland, encouraging people to rewild their land and give it back to nature.
Students will see multiple examples of other people's rewilded land, called ARKs or Acts of Restorative Kindness, and learn some of the steps and benefits of returning the land to nature.

Watching students take part in creating their own ark is inspirational, and their excitement for this project is wonderful to see.

Prerequisites

Students should understand climate change and the difference between native, nonnative, and invasive species.

Differentiation & Implementation

Taking inspiration from the video, teachers can work with students and administrative staff to start an ARK project on their school grounds.
Students can make place-based connections by researching which plants are native to their region and which invasive plants would need to be removed.
This resource can give more historical context for the current prevalence of lawns and explain why they should not be the norm anymore.
