Synopsis
This game and associated presentation discuss the economics behind agrovoltaics, or the co-location of solar photovoltaic (PV) panels and agriculture in the same area
Students will learn about opportunity costs, positive incentives, and negative incentives as they roleplay as farm owners.
Students will enjoy learning economic principles through this fun game.
Prerequisites
Each group of 3-5 students will need two dice, one instruction sheet, one set of farm cards, and game sheets for each player.
Students will benefit from having an understanding of clean energy and its importance.
Differentiation & Implementation
The tutorial references Jack's Solar Garden. To look more at this agrivoltaics site, students can check out this virtual tour.
It may benefit students to practice identifying the opportunity cost in a few different scenarios, including a few that may be familiar to them. For example, what is the opportunity cost when deciding what ice cream flavor to get?
Some students may also need additional examples of positive and negative incentives.
Teachers can demonstrate one round of gameplay with student volunteers for classes that require more guidance.
