Ask a Question

Synopsis
  • This interactive map and chart provide students with an opportunity to explore where and how much geothermal energy is being produced around the world.
  • Students can select the countries they wish to see on the line graph.
  • Data begin in 1990, and all resources can be downloaded.
Teaching Tips

Positives

  • Students can see the progression of geothermal energy around the world over time and see which countries have the most installed capacity.
  • The map and chart are easy to read and can be customized.

Additional Prerequisites

  • Students should know how to read a line graph and world map.
  • Students may need to learn about geothermal energy, as there is no explanation or additional information provided in the resource.

Differentiation

  • Cross-curricular connections could be made in social studies classes while discussing air quality.
Scientist Notes

This resource evaluates aggregate of installed geothermal capacity from different countries measured in megawatts. Geothermal energy is not commonly utilized, however production capacity is low. Data output shows the relative change from countries under study. Hence, resource is recommended.
