  • In this activity, students will create a nature journal, and use to use it to record questions and observations about nature. 
Teaching Tips


  • The activity has clear and easy-to-follow instructions, as well as pictures. 
  • The project does not require many materials, and students can be as creative as they want.  

Additional Prerequisites

  • Students should be comfortable using scissors and a hole punch. 
  • Teachers will need to gather materials for the project.


  • This journal activity could be used as a full-year science project on observing changes in the weather or seasons.
  • Students could also use the journal for observations about the plants and animals in the area.
  • Art classes could make nature journals and use the pages for naturepieces created from items found in nature.
  • Some related resources are this animated video about a girl learning about the importance of bees, and this project about upcycling.

This activity is suitable to build students' curiosity about nature and how it can be conserved. This is ideal for the classroom.
