Through this book, students will learn about the impacts of sea level rise on farming communities in Bangladesh. There are three versions of the text representing varying Lexile levels.

  • After reading, discuss the problem and solution presented in the text. For additional prompts, use the Read Aloud Guide: Climate Science Solutions.

  • This text may be used in conjunction with a 2nd grade science unit related to 2-LS-1.

  • A projectable version of the 210-400 Lexile level text is provided. To use a different version as projectable, copy and paste to replace the text.

Scientist Notes

The trajectory of crop productivity and soil fertility is shifting due to slow-onset factors such as sea level rise. Students can learn about sustainable land management techniques and regenerative agriculture from the people of Bangladesh through this exercise. The exercise has undergone scientific evaluation, and it is advised for use in classrooms.
