This video concisely introduces this Sustainable Development Goal in a way that is easy to follow.
The video has a hopeful tone that will inspire students to look forward to a better future.
Prerequisites
Students should understand that women and girls have been and continue to be marginalized globally.
It may benefit students to know of the Sustainable Development Goals. If students are unfamiliar with this topic, the video Sustainable Development Goals from Smile and Learn gives a great overview.
Differentiation & Implementation
Teachers can connect this goal to climate change by discussing environmental justice and instances where women are disproportionately affected by climate change impacts. For example, women who are responsible for collecting water for their families may be disproportionately impacted by a drought.
Alternatively, teachers can discuss how educating women and girls is a climate solution. The video Solutions for Climate Change - Empower Women & Girls! is targeted at older students, but teachers can use it to gain background knowledge on the topic.
After watching the video, students can research how women and girls are facing inequality in various countries and brainstorm solutions.
