Differentiation & Implementation
The lesson references the UN Sustainable Development Goal, No Poverty. If students are unfamiliar with the Sustainable Development Goals, teachers can use the lesson UN Sustainable Development Goals and Graphics.
Students can discuss how climate change is connected to poverty. Teachers can lead a discussion about some climate change impacts, such as increased intensity and frequency of heat waves, droughts, flooding, and others, and think about how those experiencing poverty are impacted more intensely than others. Students can then brainstorm ways their community can help those in poverty stay safe.
Students can discuss the importance of education and what things may prevent kids from getting to school. This can also lead to a lesson about girls' education and gender equality. Students can watch the video Gender Equality: SDG 5 to learn more about this topic and the related Sustainable Development Goal.
