Synopsis
In this tool from Climate TRACE, students can see countries ranked by their pollution emissions, a graph of the emissions over time, and a visual infographic of the data by sector.
The data can be selected for all regions or by individual countries.
The tool is easy to use and has many classroom applications.
The data can be manipulated for a variety of needs and the downloadable interactive graph lets students select or deselect the values to include for viewing.
Prerequisites
Students should understand the health impacts of air pollution.
Teachers may want to show students how to navigate the tool before they embark on independent exploration.
Differentiation & Implementation
Students can use this tool to compare pollution in their country to that of a country of study.
Teachers can create a webquest for students to complete with the tool. For example, teachers can have students find the country that pollutes the most in the sector of domestic aviation. If teachers want to be creative, they can even test students' critical thinking by creating riddles!
To make connections to the Sustainable Development Goals, teachers can do a mini lesson on SDG 3, Good Health and Well-Being. Teachers can find resources for teaching about the SDGs in this guide.
