Prerequisites
Depending on their familiarity with mangroves, climate change, and related topics, students may need some terms defined, such as biodiversity, endangered species, carbon dioxide, sustainable, and aerial.
Students should understand climate change and its impacts, especially on coastal regions.
Differentiation & Implementation
To demonstrate their understanding and create a personal anchor chart, students can draw pictures of mangroves and illustrate or write the reasons they are beneficial for the ecosystem.
Using the final slide as a call to action, students can plan an informational campaign to spread information about mangroves to other students and adults in their school.
This resource was created to connect students to the Sustainable Development Goals, particularly Goal 14, Life Below Water, and Goal 15, Life on Land. Teachers can introduce students to these goals and the other SDGs using this curriculum guide.
