Synopsis
This worksheet provides basic information about bobcats, such as the origin of their name, a physical description, their diet, and their daily activity, concluding with a word search featuring terms from the reading.
Students will also learn how government policy benefited bobcat populations and how to act when they encounter a bobcat.
The grid format in the word search helps students keep track of the letters.
The word search and the reading fit on the same page, saving teachers from printing multiple pages for students.
Additional Prerequisites
Students with dyslexia may find the word search difficult. Teachers may need to have an additional activity on hand.
Students should know the terms ambush, territory, and prey before they read.
Differentiation
Teachers can show students how to report a bobcat sighting in their area.
During social studies, students can discuss why the government would make laws to protect bobcats and research other policies put in place to protect animal populations.
In language arts, students can use the descriptive details in the reading to practice the use of imagery in poems about bobcats.
Students can create food webs for local ecosystems, highlighting the bobcat's niche.
Teachers can lead students in a discussion about the impact of human actions on bobcat populations.
